In simple terms, we proudly represent our clan as the Western USA
Branch of the international Clan MacLachlan Society headquartered in
Scotland, and presided over by our Clan Chief, Euan Maclachlan of
Maclachlan. Now there is a local organization, "ready, willing and
able" to serve clansmen and ladies in the Western United States.
While we are a new branch of the international society, we are not new
to the "clan scene." Our history began in the autumn of 1991 as an independent group we
named "Clan MacLachlan of the Southwest" when a handful of 13 dedicated people banded together informally to honor our proud heritage as
MacLachlans, Gilchrists and MacEwens while having fun in the process.
We set up our award-winning Information/Hospitality Tent whenever
possible at Highland Games and other Scottish gatherings in California,
Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and New
Mexico. We also publish an outstanding quarterly newsletter for our
members. The "White Cockade" is chock full of articles submitted
by our
clansmen and ladies, including summaries of outings attended, a listing of
the games and gatherings where Clan MacLachlan will be represented,
members' family news and how-to tips from our Branch Genealogist. Our
members also receive personal copies of the internationally-recognized
"Clan Lachlan" magazine published semi-annually by the parent
society.
Scholarships are awarded annually for studies in Scottish/Celtic art,
language and literature.
Social functions are a vital part of our existence; in addition to
scheduled events such as Robert Burns dinners, picnics, etc., you often may find
a group of us at a member's home for an impromptu "sip and sitdown"
in the finest Scottish tradition.
Membership in our branch includes membership in the international Clan
MacLachlan Society (with NO additional dues required) and access to the
Society's extensive genealogical database to help you in your search for
your own family members, past and present.
We hope this brief introduction has piqued your interest, and that you
will join us for a mutually rewarding association. As a clansman, you WILL
be made welcome.
